Hey you, how was your weekend? Good I hope 😁. So this week, we looking at ankara and how it looks when brought together. Ankara is a common clothing material in Africa and it is beautified by it's different colors and patterns which represents fashion in our culture. I have always been a big fan of ankara prints, I even make the effort to include an ankara piece into my outfit at least once a week, either as a head wrap, a top, jewelry or even a dress (I am sure I'm not the only one who does this 😉).
The idea of merging two different ankaras has always been something I wanted to try, but I din't exactly have the right ankara. Mixing two different ankara prints can be tricky and may look tacky when done wrong, but I think the trick to getting it right is either finding a common color in the two prints (however little it might be), or using two ankaras of the same pattern.
I styled my yellow and blue off-shoulder ankara top with a blue and orange ankara head wrap, in this look, the ankaras were matched based on a common color. A black skater skirt, tights and a pair of sneakers was added to create a causal look for Fridays or a cute traditional look for parties. The accessories being limited to a pair of hoop earrings is of a personal preference, as this look could also be rocked either ways.
The beauty of ankara is it's different colors and prints, and when they are maximized to their full potential, you can never look boring or bland. So will you try to create looks from two or even more ankaras? Feel free to drop your opinions in the comment section.
